ABOUT LACTO THERAPEUTICALS

Our mission and goal is to create a drug for the treatment and prevention of postoperative complications in cancer patients by using highly effective antioxidant agents

Oxidative system

The achievements of world science in recent years indicate the high importance of the oxidative-antioxidant system as one of the most important links in the homeostasis of a living organism and its direct participation in the pathogenesis of various diseases and pathological conditions.

In particular, the pathogenesis of malignant tumors involves a mechanism for activating oxidative processes, leading to the accumulation of free radicals and their reaction products, and treatment of an oncological patient with existing metabolic disorders is associated with further strain on the detoxification system and the risk of its depletion.

Oncological operations

Oncological operations are characterized by their extensiveness, trauma, and increased blood loss, and are often performed as part of combined and comprehensive treatment, combined with pre- and/or postoperative radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, the main mechanism of action of radiation therapy and chemotherapy is damage to the tumor cell due to the formation of free radicals.

Surgical trauma

Surgical trauma and especially massive blood loss are also powerful factors in the activation of lipid peroxidation. It is also necessary to take into account the effect of anesthesia on the body. It has been established that general anesthesia also has both a direct and indirect activating effect on free radical processes.

Oxidative-antioxidant balance

All these factors lead to the deepening of the oxidative-antioxidant balance disorders, depletion of antioxidant defense components, and the development of oxidative stress that is not subject to spontaneous correction, which is accompanied by severe immunosuppression in the overwhelming majority of patients.

Under these conditions, the likelihood of developing such life-threatening complications as multiple organ failure and postoperative purulent-septic complications, accompanied by significant mortality, sharply increases.

According to literature data, mortality from these complications, depending on the severity of multiple organ failure and endotoxemia, ranges from 30 to 75% or more.

Lactoferrin importance

Of great interest is also the natural iron-containing glycoprotein lactoferrin, present in significant quantities in all human secretions and neutrophils, possessing antioxidant, antibacterial, immunomodulatory and a number of other properties. The need for lactoferrin increases many times in critical conditions associated with endotoxicosis, severe infection, when the natural mechanisms of its production are insufficient.

The main focus of scientists involved in surgical purulent-septic complications is on optimizing antibacterial and detoxifying therapy, while the correction of oxidative stress in these conditions is not given due importance. This aspect of intensive care is especially relevant for cancer patients with initially impaired antioxidant protection. In this regard, the improvement and development of new highly effective methods of antioxidant therapy for cancer patients during surgical treatment is an extremely urgent task.

It is obvious that the greatest efficiency of antioxidant therapy can be achieved only if the activity of the antioxidant agents used corresponds to the depth of the oxidative-antioxidant balance disorders. Traditional antioxidant therapy agents are insufficient to correct significant disorders. In this regard, our company is developing an antioxidant therapy drug based on new, more effective antioxidant drugs.
